Architecture, often described as the mother of all the Arts, embodies a unique intersection where functionality meets aesthetic expression. It’s an Art form that shapes spaces where we live, work, and play. It profoundly influences our daily lives and environment around us.
My belief is that to have a beautiful and well-thought-out structure you need beautifully thought-out drawings that everyone from, the Client, General Contractor and Trades as well as the Artists that may be involved in the project, can understand to promote a successful outcome. The CAD drawings you see today are generally static and lifeless and don’t necessarily communicate completely what the goal is. Leaving some crucial decisions to someone else, because of lack of information, is a recipe for problems.
Growing up in New York, I was surrounded by Architecture old and new. I was always fascinated by the structures but never knew why. The colors, the shapes, the history didn’t become clear to me until later in life.
Coming from an artistic painting and sculpture background in my early education, I was surprisingly accepted into an Architectural school in Brooklyn with an Art portfolio. Needless to say, it was a struggle those early years to learn the “tools of the trade” such as what a scale was, or a compass, and what it meant to “design” something. Fortunately, I had great instructors and later great employers that helped me through my journey.
After graduating and working in several architectural offices, I began to feel there was something missing. The major emphasis in those offices was how it was going to look from the outside, and secondary emphasis was the interior. I found myself freelancing for Interior Decorators (that’s what they were called then) and realized that was the missing part.
I began to work for several important Interior Designers in New York until I was recruited by an Architectural firm here in Palm Beach. I was fortunate to be involved with a firm that understood the exterior of the building is only part of the recipe. I felt the experience of driving up your home was so brief compared to the experience of the interior which is where you spend most of your time. My Architectural and Interior experience eventually lead to becoming Vice President of Interior Architecture in the office of Smith Architectural Group.
Today, I offer my services to individual clients, Interior Designers as well other Architectural Offices.
